GSN Spring 2026 Field Trip: Thurs., April 23—Sun., April 26, 2026

Bunkerville & Goodsprings Districts and the Mountain Pass Mine Area

Leaders: Dave Boden, Tom Callicrate, and Peter Vikre

Focusing on critical minerals at the Bunkerville and Goodsprings districts, as well as the Mountain Pass mine area, the spring field trip will begin and end in Las Vegas.  The provisional agenda is as follows:

Thurs. 4/23: We will assemble at 3PM on Thursday, April 23 at UNLV parking lot S where we will load into vans and depart for Mesquite, NV at 4PM. Drive to Mesquite, NV for drinks, dinner, and talks on the Be, Cu, PGE, and Ni mineralization at Bunkerville. (Stay at Virgin River Casino & Lodge in Mesquite, NV) *For folks flying into Vegas on Thursday, there will be one pickup at the airport at 2PM, location TBD. The meeting point is also easily reached via taxi/rideshare from the airport.

Fri. 4/24: Visit the western part of the Bunkerville district and then head to Henderson via the northern Lake Mead road (SR 167) with geologic stops along the way. That evening, after dinner and drinks, we will have a talk on the Mountain Pass mine by the chief mine geologist, Nicole Franco. (Stay at Best Western in Henderson, NV)

Sat. 4/25: While accompanied by Nicole Franco, visit several representative REE mineralization/wall rock alteration outcrops around the mine, along with select core and rock samples from the mine. We return to Henderson for the night with an overview talk on the Goodsprings district following dinner and drinks. (Stay at Best Western in Henderson, NV)

Sun. 4/26: Visit the Keystone/Chiquita mine areas (the largest gold producer in the Goodsprings district) and another mine area yet to be finalized.  Return to UNLV by ~4PM and Las Vegas airport ~5PM.
