Lower plate carbonate rocks, the Roberts Mountains Thrust (RMT), and overlying
upper plate siliciclastic rocks in the Pipeline and Gold Acres mines form an
allochthonous sequence thrust a short distance eastward over a “normal” upper
plate/lower plate sequence at depth. The allochthonous sequence comprises a
thrust-propagated duplex culmination containing the entire upper plate section, the
RMT, and lower plate Devonian through Cambrian section above the Abyss thrust
fault. The Mississippian RMT forms the roof thrust of the duplex and is folded by the
Abyss floor thrust and its imbricate fault splays, indicating that the Abyss fault system
is post-Mississippian.
