This central Nevada field trip will include visits to two operating mines (Scorpio Gold’s Mineral
Ridge and Kinross Gold’s Round Mountain mines); tours of an advanced project in the permitting
stage (Metallic Goldfield’s Gemfield project in the Goldfield mining district, and an advanced
exploration project, West Kirkland’s Three Hills project).
Round Mountain, the Goldfield district, and the Three Hills project are examples of epithermal
systems with Round Mountain and Three Hills examples of low-sulfidation systems and Goldfield
an example of a high-sulfidation system. Epithermal systems have been, and continue to be, major
contributors to the worldwide production of gold and silver. Mineralization in these deposits can be
contained in quartz veins, stockworks, breccias, and/or disseminated in permeable units.
The Mineral Ridge has mineralization hosted in braided low-angle extensional faults which were the
conduits for gold-bearing fluids. This type of mineralization may be closely related to the
development of a core complex in the Silver Peak Range.
Our last stop will be a short visit to the Crescent Dunes Solar Plant which is a 110 MW molten salt
integrated storage facility near Tonopah.
Our accommodations for this field trip will be at the historic Mizpah Hotel in Tonopah. Built in
1907, the Cline family (Cline wines) purchased the hotel in 2011 refurbishing it and returning it to its
1907 elegance.
