Welcome to the Geological Society of Nevada’s 2015 Symposium Field Trip, The Pequop Trend –
Nevada’s “Newest” Carlin Trend. Nevada continues to yield excellent new discoveries, even at
previously mined sites and in geologic settings not previously considered prospective. This trip is
designed for seasoned “Carlin” geologists and those interested in the diversity of geologic settings of
this important deposit type.
The three-day field trip will leave Reno at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, May 21, and we will spend our
first evening in Elko. Peter Shabestari will give our evening presentation on Pilot Gold’s Kinsley
Project. On Friday, May 22 we will depart Elko and drive to the Kinsley Project. After touring the
Kinsley Project with Randy Hannink and other Pilot Gold geologists, we will drive to Wendover
where we will spend the night. We will make a few brief stops on the way to Wendover to observe
geological points of interest. Once in Wendover, Jon Powell will be giving our evening presentation
on Newmont’s Long Canyon Project. On Saturday, May 23, we will travel to the Long Canyon
Project where Jon Powell and other Newmont geologists will lead us on a tour of the project.
After seeing these newly developing discoveries, there will be quality relaxing time for discussion of
these and other prospects on our way back to Reno.
