ABSTRACT
\nThe SearchMap software encourages experts to incorporate
\npersonal knowledge and experience into decisions that involve multiple
\nlayers of interdependent map information. The software has
\nbeen used to examine the spatial associations of gold group elements
\n(Au, Sb, As, Hg), potential host rocks for gold mineralization, topographic
\nlineaments, and level-sliced topography within a 58,000
\nkm2 region along the ancient continental margin in eastern Nevada.
\nThe region is host to 526 localities where gold has been reported,
\n100 localities of antimony, 59 of arsenic, and 82 of mercury. It also
\ncontains the Carlin and Battle Mountain-Eureka gold trends, and
\nthus is a logical place to look for undiscovered gold. Discoveries
\nusually involve detailed mapping and drilling of a few square kilometers
\narea, but the goal of the present work is to demonstrate how
\nSearchMap can be used to select areas for which detailed evaluations
\nmay be appropriate.
\nTwenty-two carbonate-bearing units ranging in age from
\nCambrian through Triassic have been input as potential host rocks
\nfor gold mineralization. Elevations that encompass many of the
\nupper pediment surfaces and mountain fronts also have been input,
\nas have three classes of topographic lineaments: Classes I and II
\nfrom the mountain ranges, and Class III from basins of the region.
\nAll four of the gold group elements are strongly associated with NS
\nand NE trending Class I lineaments. Fewer element occurrences are
\nassociated with the (older?) Class II lineaments, but NE and NS features
\napparently were favored, as were EW lineaments. Occurrences
\nof gold group elements are sparse with respect to Class III lineaments
\nin basins of the region, but gold mineralization is associated
\nmost closely with NE and EW trending features.
\nThe spatial data have been integrated using linear and gaussian
\nfilters and search parameters supplied by the writers for the 58,000
\nkm2 region in eastern Nevada. The SearchMap calculated using the
\nlinear filter highlights 4 km2 in which there is at least 65 percent
\noverlap of convolved exploration parameters. This number grows to
\n31.25 km2 in which there is >60 percent overlap, and a total of
\n289.75 km2 for >52 percent overlap. The latter area represents 0.5
\npercent of the region. The corresponding numbers for the
\nSearchMap calculated using the gaussian filter are 4 km2 for >65
\npercent overlap, 22.75 km2 for >60 percent, and a total of 198.50
\nkm2 for >52 percent overlap (0.34% of the 58,000 km2 region).
\nThese areas provide a focus for additional SearchMap analysis, and
\nfor field evaluation.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"featured_media":4118,"comment_status":"closed","ping_status":"closed","template":"","meta":{"pmpro_default_level":""},"product_cat":[154],"product_tag":[],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.gsnv.org\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/product\/2340"}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.gsnv.org\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/product"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.gsnv.org\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/product"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.gsnv.org\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/comments?post=2340"}],"wp:featuredmedia":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.gsnv.org\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media\/4118"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.gsnv.org\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=2340"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"product_cat","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.gsnv.org\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/product_cat?post=2340"},{"taxonomy":"product_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.gsnv.org\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/product_tag?post=2340"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
